Sometimes you meet that rare person who defies all the odds. What does “defy the odds” mean? Let’s be real clear so that is understood up front.
“Defy the odds” is used to describe an accomplishment or something that is seemingly improbable or succeeding in something where people thought you would fail. “Defying the odds” means that the odds are stacked against you, and it’s not very likely you’ll make it—but you do!
There are different odds in all areas of life that can be stacked against you: personal odds, family odds, work odds, country odds and world odds. And this year we’ve all had a tough time on all fronts. And yet this person I’m introducing to you had an INCREDIBLE year and consistently perseveres in all areas of life. His work ethic is amazing. He constantly extends himself beyond his comfort zone. His resilience and commitment to causes is admirable and he wears the W for Winner on his spiritual t-shirt proudly for all to see. And all who see it want to be it. He sets such a good example.
Meet Justin. I could tell you the trials and tribulations he has overcome. If you can imagine it, he has beat it. And this year he is the top closer for the 2nd year in a row, he has won Big Dog 74 times! He continues to exceed expectations in all he does. He has done so well we had to come up with a new category of acknowledgment. So Justin is the winner of our first annual Employee of the Year Award. Thanks for contributing to making this a GREAT year, Justin!
